Barbara Shur

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Barbara Shur grew up in New York City. She received her Doctor of Chiropractic in 1985 from the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles and is a former member of the college faculty. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences from California State University Long Beach where she also earned an Athletic Training Certificate.

Throughout her education and training Dr. Shur worked as a physical therapy aid. She assisted patients through respiratory and stroke rehabilitation as well as instructing geriatric and post-surgical patients how to walk and regain independence. "I found tremendous fulfillment in assisting patients to improve their health and quality of life. It was my desire to help people on a different level that led me to chiropractic medicine."

Dr. Shur is a record-holding long distance runner and her practice includes many athletes. She has trained in a range of techniques including Sacro-occipital (utilizing the gentle force of gravity to balance the spine through adjustment of the pelvis) and cranial adjusting (subtle manipulation of the skull bones to insure proper natural movement). Because of this unique expertise, she was invited by a large chiropractic family practice in Australia to work alongside their experts and participate as an instructor in their national seminars.

I first met Dr. Shur over twelve years ago when she assumed the chiropractic practice where I had received treatment for several years prior. I was immediately impressed with her abilities and her concern. She has treated me for a variety of complaints through the years including my recent auto accident injury and always gets me back in shape fast. She also has attended my daughter, Amanda, for sports injuries and a serious automobile accident injury. A runner herself, Dr. Shur gave special attention to Amanda's running complaints and, further, served as a valued role model and friend during Amanda's developing teen years." - Sandy M.

As a mother she also enjoys extensive work treating infants, children and expectant mothers. Dr. Shur is a member of the California Chiropractic Association, the Long Beach Chiropractic Society and the Sacro-Occipital Research Society International.
